Velocity preserving transfer between highly excited atomic states: black body radiation and collisions

چکیده

Abstract We study the excitation redistribution from cesium 7P 1/2 or 3/2 to neighboring energy levels by black body radiation (BBR) and inter atomic collisions using pump-probe spectroscopy inside a vapor cell. At low densities we measure of initial, velocity-selected, BBR. This preserves selected velocities allowing us perform high resolution 6D → 7F transitions. transfer mechanism could also be used sub-Doppler highly-excited nG levels. observe interatomic redistributing within fine hyperfine structure. show that involves state-changing preserve initial selection velocities. These mechanisms can importance for experiments probing lying excited states in dense alkali vapor.

Characteristics of highly excited diatomic rovibrational spectra and slow atomic collisions

We show that the highly excited rovibrational spectra of a diatomic molecule and the closely related slow atomic collision processes contain more systematics and require less parameters to characterize than the Rydberg spectrum of an atom. In the case of a single channel, for example, we show that a single short-range parameter gives a complete description of slow collisions for practically all...

Atomic and molecular intracules for excited states.

Intracules in position space, momentum space and phase space have been calculated for low-lying excited states of the He atom, Be atom, formaldehyde and butadiene. The phase-space intracules (Wigner intracules) provide significantly more information than the position- and momentum-space intracules, particularly for the Be atom. Exchange effects are investigated through the differences between c...

Mixing between Vibrationally Highly Excited Resonance States of DCO

Over the last years, state-resolved studies of unimolecular reactions of small and intermediate size molecules have provided considerable new insight into the dissociative dynamics of vibrationally highly excited molecules. In our laboratory, we use the technique of stimulated emission pumping (SEP) for preparing and probing selected highly excited states. In a case study of DCO ( X~ A’), we de...

Decay Modes of Highly Excited String States and Kerr Black Holes

We consider four-graviton scattering in Type II string theory on one-loop level in the large centre of mass energy M limit. We extract from it an explicit integral expression for the full string theory corrections to the imaginary part of the mass-shift and the lifetime of a massive state with the highest allowed spin J = 2M + 2. We find a decay rate that is up to logM corrections of order 1 in...

Classical trajectory study of energy transfer in collisions of highly excited allyl radical with argon.

Predicting the results of collisions of polyatomic molecules with a bath of atoms is a research area that has attracted substantial interest in both experimental and theoretical chemistry. Energy transfer, which is the consequence of such collisions, plays an important role in gas-phase kinetics and relaxation of excited molecules. We present a study of energy transfer in single collisions of h...
